Nightfall in the Barangay is a Filipino folklore–inspired haunted maze created as my final project for the TEAD SketchUp course—a passion piece that blends culture, horror, and immersive environmental storytelling.

Guests are called to investigate unexplained paranormal activity in a remote Philippine barangay. Their path leads into an isolated forest hiding creatures of legend: the towering Kapre, the elusive Sigbin, and other spirits watching from the shadows. The trail pushes deeper into a family’s cluttered home, now overrun by Aswang—including a nightmarish Manananggal lurking in the rafters.

The journey continues through backyards, narrow forest trails, and village roads where a Mangkukulam and her Tikbalang cast curses on anyone who dares pass. Near the finale, guests reach what should be a safe haven—the village church—only to find the pews overtaken by Buso demons and a lone priest desperately holding his ground.

As a Filipino and lifelong horror fan, this project allowed me to revisit the folklore I grew up hearing from my Lola and family. I pulled from memories of my grandmother’s home, our Catholic traditions, and the stories that shaped my childhood fears.

🛠 Design Process
-Strengthened my SketchUp skills with components, grouping, and tagging
-Used x-ray views and scene reveals to plan sightlines and scares
-Explored custom materials, lighting tone, and character posing
-Experimented with splitting characters like the Manananggal for multi-part scares

Focused on storytelling and atmosphere over practical build constraints, since this was a speculative assignment

This project deepened my love for culturally rooted attractions and reinforced my passion for blending mythology, identity, and immersive design.
