Pixie Party--Ride Engineering Competition 2023/24

The Ride Engineering Competition is a prestigious event for students aspiring to enter the themed entertainment industry, offering a hands-on opportunity to design, plan, and manufacture a themed attraction. This multidisciplinary challenge emphasizes project-based learning and industry-specific practices, culminating in major deliverables like a functional model, systems engineering report, and final presentation.

Our team’s entry, Pixie Party, was a fairy rave-themed simulator ride that stood out for its creativity and reliability. While my talented teammates focused on engineering feats like laser-cutting the track, programming controls, and ensuring safety constraints, I contributed to the theming, decorations, and marketing. I ideated the story and characters, hand-drew sketches, and fabricated mini set pieces, props and characters using clay, paper, and paint to bring the magical rave to life. I also contributed to the lighting and sound experience by purchasing a disco light speaker that truly brought the party to the competition. Despite challenges with miscommunication, our team adapted and delivered a captivating, fully operational attraction—the only one at the competition that ran without a single malfunction. We placed fourth overall, and I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished together.
